Tranquil Love

February 1st, 2012 / No Comments »

Carrie Calvin donated this lovely piece titled “Tranquil Love.”

” This necklace consists of a handcrafted precious metal clay pendent, accompanied with assorted gemstones, glass beads and pearls.

Precious Metal clay (PMC) is a crafting medium consisting of very small particles of silver mixed with an organic binder and water for use in making jewelry, beads and small sculptures. Metal clay can be shaped just like any soft clay, by hand or using molds. After drying, the clay can is fired and the binder burns away, leaving the pure silver.”

Courtney Shaw

We love these submissions from Courtney Shaw… the top image titled “Paris at Night – The City of Light” and the bottom image titled “My Only Love.”

“I took these 3 photos in Paris France. I fell in love with the romance of the city, especially the lights at night. Romance meets the nostalgia of the Polaroid.”

“This photo was taken in Florence Italy. The poster was on a wall in a secluded alley, the artist seems to be anonymous. I loved the stark contrast between the type on the poster, and the rough, dark graffiti behind it on the wall.”

“Pink and Teal for the One that Got Away” by Collin Day

January 27th, 2012 / No Comments »

Thank you Collin for your photograph “Pink and Teal for the One that Got Away.”

“The photo I originally took a few years back during the fall when I lived in California. I went into the garden department of the Lowes I worked at and was drawn to this blanket of chrysanthemums. I took a few dozen shots and came out with a really crisp vibrant close-up which has always been one of my favorite photos to experiment with new editing techniques. Which is ultimately why I chose it dig it up from my archive of photos to work with.My ex is also a photographer who often works with gradient maps when he is editing his photos. I was inspired by one of his edits of Lana Del Ray with Pink (a favorite color of his) and Teal, so
I took a page out of his book and updated this photo for heartart. I thought it was befitting considering the theme of the event. He has since moved to New York to pursue his dream of becoming a famous photographer, we still talk, we miss each other, this is my homage to Tony, the one that got away.”

Collector Plate

January 27th, 2012 / No Comments »

Thanks to Chris Cowans for donating his awesome piece titled “Collector Plate.” He describes it as such:

“How do we decide a thing is valuable? What makes an object “collectible”? This art piece seeks to provoke these questions. The overly-ornate script lettering applied in metallic gold foil on an otherwise ordinary dinner plate declares itself to be desirable. Devoid of taste and material value, the plate is part of an open edition — so not even its scarcity can give it worth. It is part satire, part commentary and part crass commercial venture.”
